Getting pretty excited!!!

This a good time to get prepared. I am having my Eagle Scout sons get me prepared during the Christmas break. Good times are ahead.

Denis enjoys a view of the inner gorge from the Plateau Point overlook.

Sometimes Connie gets out there, over the edge!
During our October 1981 canyon hike, we stayed two nights at Indian Garden on the way out. During the day in between, we hiked out onto the Tonto Plateau, where this picture of Connie was taken.

Great Web site

Have any of you seen Hit the Trail yet? It's a fabulous Internet site full of advice, tips, etc. for people preparing to do what we are. It's written and managed by a former Grand Canyon (and elsewhere) park ranger.

Check it out:

Leave No Trace - Outdoor Ethics

Here's a map that includes the Kaibab Trail we will take down, starting on the right at Yaki Point, stopping at the bottom at Bright Angel Camp, and returning up Bright Angel Trail on the left side, passing Indian Gardens about half-way up.

I found this colorful diagram cross-section of the Grand Canyon on Wikipedia. The link includes the name and a link to more information about each of the rock layers.

This link to the National Park Service Geology Fieldnotes is a great introduction to Grand Canyon geology. Enjoy!

This picture was taken in 2004 during our visit to the south rim.
Welcome to our Grand Canyon weblog. We will use this site to post useful information as we plan for our hike down into the canyon, and just to have fun.
