In anticipation of our hike down the Grand Canyon.
Tuesday, March 6, 2007
Welcome to our Grand Canyon weblog. We will use this site to post useful information as we plan for our hike down into the canyon, and just to have fun.
Ever since I first saw the Grand Canyon I have wanted to get to the bottom. Just looking around and exploring at the bottom will be a treat. It will be a great time.
The canyon walls of the inner gorge are all Precambrian, some I think up to 2 billion years old! Too old to find many fossils, which you can find higher up (but it is against the law to remove any).
The Precambrian is one of the earliest and longest subdivisions of geologic time, extending from about 4 billion years ago until 540 million years ago.

Great idea!
I'm so excited about the trip. I told Connie that, for me, the planning and anticipation are lots of fun, too.
